CRD-Component Resolved Diagnostics

Aashwas chest and allergy clinic introduce Component Resolved Diagnostics (CRD) using ALEX® 2.0

Overview of component resolved diagnostics (CRD)

Component Resolved Diagnostics (CRD) use purified native or recombinant allergens to detect IgE sensitivity to each allergen molecules and have become of developing significance in clinical investigation of IgE-mediated allergies. In pollinosis as well as in allergy to hymenoptera venoms or to food, CRD allows to some extent discrimination between clinically significant and irrelevant sIgE results and the establishing of sensitisation patterns with particular prognostic

Overall, CRD may decrease the need for provocation testing and may also improve the specificity of allergen-specific immunotherapy.

What is ALEX® 2.0 IgE-Allergen Screening?

ALEX® Allergy Test is the first in vitro multiplex allergy test allowing simultaneous measurement of total IgE (tIgE) and specific IgE (sIgE) against a plethora of allergen extracts and molecular allergens. A near-complete picture of each patient’s sensitization status is obtained, based on the test panel composition of allergen extracts and molecular allergens.

The detection of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in serum plays a crucial role in the diagnosis of type 1 allergies.

For patients with multiple allergen sensitizations or for patients with ambiguous clinical symptoms the conventional determination of individual allergens is often an expensive and lengthy procedure.

In cases like these, a comprehensive allergen screening provides a clear picture of the patient‘s sensitization profile and thus serves as a powerful tool for the correct diagnosis and prevention of allergen exposure.

The ALEX® Allergy Explorer allows the simultaneous measurement of the total IgE and specific IgE against nearly 300 allergens, among those 120 extracts and up to 180 allergen

components. The test thus covers 99 % of all possible type 1 allergen sources and requires a mere 1 ml of blood.

IgE allergen profile’s advantages compared to specific IgE diagnostics (Allergy Profile) and Skin Prick Test (SPT):

  1. Preparation of complete sensitization profiles for patients with suspected manifold allergies or in cases with ambiguous anomalies.
  2. Differreactionsentiation between real sensitization and cross-reactivity to better assess the danger of anaphylactic for suitable therapy planning.
  3. In patients with multiple-allergies comprehensive analysis regarding the individual sensitization pattern, allowing detailed nutrition counseling.
  4. In order to dismiss allergy as the cause of the patient’s symptoms.
  5. To stratify the risks of different allergens according to the severity
  6. To guide about the success and relevance of allergen immunotherapy with different allergens.

Who Can Benefit from IgE allergen profile test?

The IgE Allergy Explorer can benefit patients with any of the following symptoms could benefit from allergy testing:

  • Itchy mouth or oral irritation
  • Hives or eczema
  • Itching or swelling of the skin
  • Nasal and sinus congestion
  • Wheezing or shortness of breath
  • Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting
  • History of an allergic reactions

Benefits of IgE allergen profile test

The purpose of the IgE Allergen Profile test is to support the diagnosis of allergies alongside medical history and other additional tests (skin tests, etc.).

ALEX® provides information on:

  • Potential indication of a specific immunotherapy
  • Allergy risks to avoid severe allergic reactions to foods
  • Cross-reactivities
  • The presence of an allergen that was not suspected

Can IgE allergen profile test be done for infants and Children?

Yes, blood testing for IgE antibodies is safe in children and often preferable to a scratch or food challenge test that may evoke a reaction. IgE Allergen Profile Test evaluates both extract and components that are particularly useful when managing pediatric patients who are exhibiting allergic reactions.
